My total 90's bad favourite movie, with extra cheese!

I just like this odd ball of a film. As a nineties' memorandum of interweb (sic), Nokia's fame days, Volvo S40s and the long haired Val Kilmer, there really anything isn't like it. Plus the way russians are done, pure post-soviet mismatch of cold weather and also the exotic hairstyle, you just can't help to fall in love with this flick. This was Kilmer's heyday, postcard from a world, where future was made of technologic gizmos filled with newness. Just love this - a way better than a time machine, then.

It is an oddball of a film, because it bears absolutely no similarity to the books or TV series. I loved the TV series and wanted to like this film, but ultimately it just doesn't hold together, as an origin story, action story, thriller, romance or SF tale. It wasn't a huge commercial success and I think I understand why.🐭

I am really into the books but I got into the books waaayyy after I saw this film so I was able to experience them independently and that is why I can like both. If I had been expecting something when I watched the movie I'm sure it would have been a disappointment but I was a teenager when I saw it with no presumptions and it was a fun watch, now I still enjoy it even though I've read and loved the books.

It's not a bad odd film at all, it's one of the best from the 90s. I absolutely love it. Watch it all the time.
