Most exciting scene

when kilmer and shue prepare a diversion under the car in moscow square, and elisabeth is running to the american embassy, I really love that scene where she is almost caught by the guy. what you think?

I love it when she makes it inside and the Marine is telling Ilya to 'BACK OFF!' from behind the gate and there isn't a damn thing he can do about it(except spit in his face).

I came to this page only to see if anyone else thought this scene was great. I am not even American, but that scene is so intense. When she runs and screams that she is an American, and the guard says back off! Wow.

I got excited every time Elizabeth Shue was on screen... if you know what i mean... ;)

I totally agree. That was probably the most intense scene for me to watch. But I loved the scene at the end when he's at her press conference and flirting with her, looking all nerdly and funny. She seems so happy. It always makes me smile.

Agreed! I love this scene all the way through. First, they create the diversion so she can make a run for the embassy gate. Then Putin's, er, sorry -- Tretiak's son is hot on her tail and nearly grabs her -- high tension!

She yells out "I'm American -- open the gate!" In spite of not producing a passport, they open the gate for her, slamming it shut in the bad guy's face. :^) Then the bad-ass Marine barks at him to back off, so he can do nothing other than the empty insult of spitting at the Marine.

The coup de grace is delivered back at the truck, when Kilmer taunts the son by saying "She outran you - how humiliating." So the son smacks Val, right before the truck blows up!

Always love that scene in this movie. Like others, I acknowledge this movie is not the finest piece of filmaking, but I enjoy it nonetheless as a guilty pleasure. :^)
