Made For TV?

I may be crazy, but I am fairly sure I saw this movie at Varsity Theater in Toronto back in 1998, what network was it on?

not exactly "made for tv." "made for tv" and "made for cable" aren't the same thing.
tv movies are generally bland and non-challenging aesthetically; and on the technical side, are edited for content and commercial time.

this film is so narratively, aesthetically and technically proficient, i didn't know it was "made for cable" 'til just now.

i thought i'd have a problem not seeing patrick stewart as a starship captain from "star trek: the next gen.," but that was out of the question right from the beginning. the guy has some acting chops. i think i might have seen him in something else (but don't remember what it was); here he owns his role and the material of this film...funny and tragic, simultaneously. the narrative has a nice surprise of an ending, too, all the while walking a thin line between what we think may be happening and what is happening.

Patrick Stewart has done a number of movie roles. Jeffery he played a gay guy and was praised for his performance. Dad Savage he is a British crime boss and one sequence has him line dancing in a country Western Bar. Plus you get to hear him swear like a drunken sailor.

Also Patrick Stewart is a trained Shakespearean actor he has done tons of plays.

I remember watching this one on the FOX Channel years ago . I think it was back in 1999 or 2000 ? Excellent movie and Patrick Stewart was the best in this one too . Thanks cosmostein for your subject post .

If you look carefully at the end credits, you will see this movie was filmed in 1997. I suspect it sat on the shelf for a couple years before airing on cable.

For a made-for-cable-TV film, that film was pretty damn good.
