Mann: Coolest Character in Film?

Did anybody else find Mann to be quite possibly the coolest character in film? Mysterious wanderer turned warrior for the innocent, you don't get any cooler than that.

maybe, but i live in miami and i remember when the film came out there was an article in the paper where two survivors of the actual incident claimed that Mann didnt even exist. i believe them but the movie was still excellent.

Too bad "Mann" was a fictional character.

Yes, the injection of a fictional "man-with no-name" type hero riding in to the rescue was a wonderful character. But to my way of thinking it betrayed the painful facts of that horrible event. It's nice to think that it could have happened, and for marketing purposes it made the movie palpable to a wider audience that the dismal truth would have done.
Same with the resurrection of Sylvester Carrier; there is no evidence that he ever escaped from his home. He would have been the most likely hero of this story, had he not been killed in the first wave of the violence.
Those two aspects really ruined the movie, for me. I don't think it is proper to rewrite history just because the facts are too unpleasant.

Yes, Mann was a cool character! Before watching Rosewood I saw Ving Rhames in The Saint of Fort Washington. For those of you that have seen this movie, you know what kind of a character he was in it, but after watching Rosewood that image erased the one that I had of him. I love it how Mann got off of his horse and started shooting. Too bad that he wasn't a real person.

To my knowledge man was slightly based off of the real Sylvester. In the film they are two characters, Sylvester and Mann, in reality there was just Sylvester who played the piano, was a leader, and dignified. Sylvester did some of the things Mann did in the film and the real Sylvester was often referd to by his nickname "man". Unfortunately the real "Man"/Sylvester died in the gunfight at his home.
