I never understood this part. Whats mary and rhoda? Im assuming mary is atteactive and rhoda isnt but who or what are they?!!?

Mary Tyler Moore and her friend Rhoda were characters on The Mary Tyler Moore show, which aired in the 70's, and yes, Mary was overwhelmingly considered the more attractive one.
