Anyone else think that Romy's dress at the reunion...

...looked like a costume from a really tacky sci-fi convention!?

An electric blue metallic-material minidress with a silver 'Star Trek' style "delta shield" arrowhead on the bust.

She looked like an extra from one of the convention scenes in Galaxy Quest (yes I know that came out after this film, but it's still a valid comparison)!

(Don't get me wrong I liked the dress (& Michele's too)! Very sexy, just a little 'trekky looking!)

Pissing people off on the internet is a victimless crime, like punching someone in the dark.

So, who cares, did you have to wear that? NO! So who gives a crap! Sorry that something colorful bothers you so much.

Good grief, that's a bit harsh isn't it?

Someone nasty got out of bed on the wrong side!

If you go back and read, the person (yes, a real person, try to remember that) was saying they actually liked the dress, but thought it was a bit "Trekky".

They are entitled to an opinion you know.

reply

Nope, not harsh at all, actually. Just brutally honest, why does that offend you? Sorry but I don't sugar coat things, cause the world isn't sugar coated. I'm a realist, by the way. In fact, I'm a lot like Janeane Garofalo, both in looks and personality.

You just got to love it when someone disguises rudeness by calling it "realism".

You're not a realist, just nasty.

reply

No rude is like some complete stranger turning around and punching your lights out, realism is real, it hurts, but that's the truth about it. You need to stop living in your delusional world!

Keepin' it "real rude!"

You say “rude” like it’s something bad. You clearly do not live in New York.

Wow someone is trying just a LITTLE BIT hard to get attention...I can only hope that you have grown up a little since you wrote that because you sound like a nasty bitter teenager. People post their opinons on here all the time, that's sorta why we are here.

And in the interest of NOT sugar coating, I doubt you look anything like Janeane Garafalo, and having met her, I can tell you without any doubt that she has the sense of humor and personality that you so obviously lack. She would have the ability to laugh at someone's stilly dress...in fact most people who aren't ridiculously insecure would. You clearly have pathetically low self esteem or you wouldn't be trying so hard to get people to pay attention to you and then talking about yourself so much on a thread that has nothing to do with you. Hopefully I have done my part to stroke your ego anyway, and that's as good as it's gonna get for a nasty person with no personality or sense of humor. SORRY NOT TO SUGAR COAT IT, BUT THE WORLD ISN'T SUGAR COATED. And I'm sure the decent, sweet people of the world do their best to stay away from nasty slobs like you. I will make an effort to NOT ready anything I ever see your name on again...loser.

reply

Yeah, I doubt that you really met her, just like Elvis is my father and Queen Elizabeth is my mom. I have a higher self esteem than most losers like you. And as for being a psychfan, I think I'm more of a fan of Psychology than you are, and being huge fan, maybe you should check yourself into a psycho ward and get yourself a first class lobotomy, and a sense of who you really are, probably the bitter teenager that you're talking about. By the way, I do act like Jeaneane Garafalo, dark hair, dark sense of humor and glasses. I actually am a decent and sweet person, but you'll never get to know that side of me, cause you are the slob! You don't even know me, for starters, I am the most friendly person on this Earth, just like our good friend Janeane! Since you know her so well, I'm sure you know that she IS a GOOD PERSON! Now please, little psychopath, I've got other things to do than to hold your hand! Oh, and I am blocking you so that I don't have to deal with further harassment!

cheez_it_2004, you need to channel your rage into something worthwhile.
The dress was supposed to be comical. That was the director's intention. If that's not obvious to you, then I don't know what else went over your head when watching this.
What's truly annoying about your posts is that you've turned a kind of fun, observant thread into something petty and childish. I suggest you start posting on The Soapbox.

It's really not normal to have such a spastic emotional meltdown over a stranger's opinion of a dress.

Thought it was cool. Apparently, so did Lisa Luder...

First off, WHAT was a bit harsh? Who are you chastizing?

Someone nasty got out of bed on the wrong side!

THAT's a bit harsh to me (the someone nasty) you dont' know us personally from a hole in the wall! Whoever said the "bit harsh" thing might even be your mother! (you're mother's not nasty--- is she?)

If you go back and read, the person (yes, a real person, try to remember that) was saying they actually liked the dress, but thought it was a bit "Trekky".

(I love this...) If YOU go back and read, you will see that the OP says the little trekky looking bit at the very end -- almost like a disclaimer -- and knocks it in all the lines above!

The first line says: really tacky sci-fi convention

Second line says: An electric blue metallic-material minidress with a silver 'Star Trek' style "delta shield" arrowhead on the bust.

Third line: She looked like an extra from one of the convention scenes in Galaxy Quest (yes I know that came out after this film, but it's still a valid comparison)!

Fourth line is the one saying that OP actually liked the dress, blah, blah, blah... a crock of shizzle! IF OP liked the dress he or she wouldn't have knocked it!

They are entitled to an opinion you know.

And apparently the rest of us aren't entitled to an opinion...

You're laborers, you're supposed to be laboring! That's what you get for not having an education!!

I thought they looked kind of "spacy" somehow too, but cute.

reply

The shiny dresses were very on trend in the 90s, kitten heels too.

reply

Umm ok....

[First off, WHAT was a bit harsh? Who are you chastizing? ]

I believe that the comment "So, who cares, did you have to wear that? NO! So who gives a crap! Sorry that something colorful bothers you so much. " was a little harsh. Basically implying that no-one is interested in her opinion (which is kind of redundant as this is a public message board where people can pretty much post whatever they want).

Also, this comment doesn't actually show that the poster has any understanding of the intention of the original poster.

If you actually read and understood the original post, they weren't complaining, just wondering if anyone thought the dresses looked like they were from "a tacky sci-fi convention."

Looking at the original post, i don't see any complaining, just a bunch of statements. They don't say anything explicitly about the dress being unattractive or unflattering or detrimental to the movie in some way.

[(I love this...) If YOU go back and read, you will see that the OP says the little trekky looking bit at the very end -- almost like a disclaimer -- and knocks it in all the lines above! ]

Well, if YOU go back and read it (again) you will notice that the only obviously negative thing that the OP says is the word "tacky." And so, just because the line at the end is "a little bit like a disclaimer" then it's automatically the OP back-tracking on their opinion? Hm, ok, i assume you know why i structure my posts the way i do also?
MAYBE, the OP wrote their post and thought "ooh, that sounds a little negative, i just want to clarify that i don't actually dislike the dress."

But what do i know? I guess i just take things at face value - first poster asks a legitimate question and second poster doesn't say anything constructive, misses the point of the original post and uses an unnecessarily aggressive tone.

Wow. I can't believe how many people took this so personally.

I liked the different colors of wardrobe in this movie. I get so tired of ppl wearing black when they're dressed formal.

I loved Romy's dress. In fact, I thought that the Star Trek influence of it made it even more awesome! But I also liked Michele's pink fluffy dress as well :)

reply

I was too busy thinking she was sexy as hell in it to consider any such notions.

reply

That sort of dress was in fact common in 1997, just look up Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton
