Although I don't like the excessive violence in the movie, I still love the film over all. I like the weird relationship between him and Mira Sorvino - the hitman with a heart and the female forger.

The only reason their relationship seems weird is cause when they audience tested a rough cut of this movie, for some odd reason the test audience couldn't wrap their minds around (they more or less disapproved of it) a bi-racial couple so scenes involving John and Meg romantically were cut.

Like, with jet packs.

reply

No, the only romantic scene was a kiss at the end that was cut because it was a crappy shot. Horrible camera angles, etc. Audience reaction had nothing to do with it. The movie is an action movie not really a romance anyway. I like John and Meg and would have no problem with them together, but them jumping into bed while fighting for their lives just wouldn't have fit. I wouldn't have minded the cut kiss scene from the end if it was filmed so badly. It was really awkward the way it was filmed and actually took away from the ending which is why it was cut. That was the only romantic scene between the two characters. I think John's hand on her cheek was way more poignant then the cut kiss anyway.

reply

I thought both were okay, i do agree John's hand on her cheek was a great way to end it.

Can't seem to get the wav to load however there is a personal and unverifiable account about Tarantino and "hating a movie" here which seems to be somewhat in conflict barring ambiguity with respect to words like hate and dislike. http://badassdigest.com/2011/11/03/film-crit-hulk-smash-never-hate-a-movie/

Still audio is more credible then a personal account from somebody who just so happened to meet Tarantino.

reply

He probably hates it because he didnt come up with it.

And? Since when does he have any authority on movies?

He doesn't even have a best director yet.

No one Gives it to you...you have to take it

reply

He probably doesn't like it because if I'm not mistaken Mira Sorvino dated and dumped him. Sour grapes maybe. Or maybe because The Replacement Killers wasn't full of 15 minute long pop culture laden expositions. While I'm not going to take anything away from QT's body of work, even though it's been very hit or miss as of late. Sometime you want a movie where the actors just shut up and shoot.

I'd say Fuqua and Tarantino's track record for good movies are about equal.

reply

I suspect he would have liked the movie had the screenwriter got who he wanted: Bruce Willis and Linda Fiorentino.
