Panic Crowd Running Through Building Was Hilarious

Yeah, it is supposed to be scary. But I was laughing my ass off at the crowd running away from something. When the body dropped from the ceiling and the crowd totally lost their minds, the ensuing chaos was too funny. You had to have some some the most stupid people in all of humanity for this to happen. They had no idea what they were running from. All that happened was a body fell from the ceiling. There was no monster at the time. they simply started running, running into glass exhibits, tripping over everything that was close, tripping over each other, squashing each other into doors, windows, revolving doors, and never once were they being chased by anything.

And oh how funny that they have some wonderful security system that has super military grade, nuclear proof, security doors that come down whenever something happens. Oh, and their system is so bad that when it does come down the motors short out, which then completely shuts down power to the whole museum. The system then has to be rebooted, which takes forever. And there is no way to open any of these doors in the mean time. I guess the stupid people running from nothing must have also installed the security doors.

That was the only dumb part in the whole movie.

What did you want them to do? Don their body armor, take up defensive positions to get the creature in a crossfire?

reply

They didn't knew about the creature at all at this point! The two policemen or whatever just came to issue evacuation but they didn't had time to explain what they encountered first and second not everyone would hear them.

reply

Sure, but EVERYBODY there would know that people had been getting their heads ripped off in the building lately. It's not like they'd be able to keep that out of the papers.

I thought it was one of he most solo action acenes in the movie to be honest, it was rather brutal at times with all those people tripping and all. True that the audience knows that they're running from nothing but I think that's pretty accurate on portraying what general panic is like, jus people running scared senseless.

LOL

Not to mention that guy/homicide detective (?) who thought it would be a smart idea to use a fancy wooden banquet chair to try to stop the 10,000 ton steel security door from closing! 

So you're in the very museum where a mad decapitator has been running around for the last few days. A decapitated body falls to the ground in front of you. Do you decide to run, or do you decide to stick around and make totally sure the decapitator did it and is also nearby, just so you don't look foolish if he isn't?

(You don't seem to be giving much credit to mob psychology either. If you hear someone start screaming and see other people also screaming while running out of the room, you're not exactly going to go against the tide there or wait to do a poll about why they're screaming, you'll just run away too. It's a chain reaction kind of a thing.)

And oh how funny that they have some wonderful security system that has super military grade, nuclear proof, security doors that come down whenever something happens.

It's a museum containing priceless artifacts (and millions of dollars' worth of things that can be priced). What makes you think they wouldn't have such a thing? It keeps thieves from being able to escape, and possibly smothers a fire and prevents it from traveling to different rooms.

Oh, and their system is so bad that when it does come down the motors short out, which then completely shuts down power to the whole museum.

The monster ripped up the power supply, which it what caused it to short out when the security system was activated. Guess you missed that.

The system then has to be rebooted, which takes forever. And there is no way to open any of these doors in the mean time.

I'm not sure why you'd find that implausible, it IS a security system after all. If someone could just hit a button next to one of the doors to open it again, that would kind of defeat the purpose. That all happens from a central control area, which was put out of commission because of the damage the monster did to it.

The funny thing is that you didn't mention the one thing about this that bugged me: that people running and tripping over stuff was enough to completely flummox it and think there was a fire, earthquake, etc. Those are some sensitive sensors.

just watched this again since i saw on cable. totally ridiculous scene. just came on the IMDbs to see if anyone else mentioned it. OP was spot on. Good work.

I think in a situation like that would turn out exactly like that scene. It's kind of easy to say it's silly or what should have been done, but when it comes to mankind, they will do whatever it takes to save themselves. Frightening but whole heartedly true.
