Wilfred.

I Love this movie, but the one thing that bugged me greatly was Wilfred. He felt a little bit like a wasted character. He's in so much of it but so little of him is shown. They really should have done more with him: have a flash back to when he broke down, hear his opinion on "Dotty-ville," via a letter to his mother or a session with Rivers/Brock-something.

His Characterization in the movie, as lovey as it was in parts, bugged me even more. He had this sort of innocence and naive air about him and his body language was clumsy to the point were he ended up feeling like a lost child. I know it's trying showcase the effects of Shell Shock on him and I know the real Owen had a habit of being a little awkward, but I think at times it was over played and his character in effect suffered because of it.

What I did love though, was how close they got to what the real Owen looked like. He's even got something akin to that weird gaze the real Owen had. The opening scene were he tries to take the dead bird out of Burn's hand and they both start crying...I shed a couple tears myself and I liked the part were he's "having a moment" and flees to the swamp. At one level it's foreshadowing his death and it seems like he goes there because he knows a similar place will be his death bed.
