There were certain scenes that seemed to be added that had no value to the actual story line like when he describes how law school was between the first and last years. Also it was quite badly edited, use of fade in and out, especially between the court house scenes and Matt and Clare Danes.
It did however, have some great acting in it.
I believe you are talking about the scenese in the opening credits. I thought it was a clever way to introduce information from the book without bogging down the rest of the movie. I have read (actually listened to the abridged version on book tape) the book several times and recognized who the characters were and was familiar with the storyline behind these opening scenes. I really enjoyed them.
