The book

I am thinking about buying the book, but just out of interest, how true was the movie to the book? (is it page-for-page.... 50%... 30%... or just shares the same title etc...)

In the past I have read books and then watched the movie (or vice versa) and been left with mixed feelings (the Bourne Movies, Gorky Park, Da Vinci Code etc...)

Thanks

It's pretty true to the book. As usual, I found the book to be better, with more funny parts, better character development, but the movie did have Danny DeVito in a role that seems almost perfectly crafted for him. But, in short, the movie cleaves closely to the book.

I saw the film a few years ago and have just this minute finished reading the book which I found enthralling. I've also just read Runaway Jury which was just as good - very much page turners both of them.

The movie is factually true to the book, but of course the book is more fleshed out with details, more scenes, maybe a few more nonvital characters, and good writing, which always gets lost when it's turned into a movie.

It is the opposite thing for me I have read the book but haven't seen the movie ,I 've found the book very good and not totally without substance ! it has a beautiful humanitarian side which tends to reality more than artificiality .I wish to see the movie .

The movie mostly follows the book. However, the filmmakers changed a lot of things. They also omitted a few characters. Fans of the book may be a little disappointed in some of the changes the filmmakers made.

I highly recommend the book, as it is one of the best books I have ever read.

I read the book a couple of years before seeing the movie, and since I hold the book in such high refards, I was ultimately disappointed with the movie.

The casting does not hold true with the imagery I had associated with the characters in the book. Plus, many important details and characters are ommited due to the obvious time constraints of a movie.

For the most part, it follows the plot of the movie, but it doesn't hold a candle to the book. I'd say this is true of almost any movie adaptation of a book, however.

One of the items that was omitted (and in my opinion should not have been) was Donny Ray's twin brother. Its all fine and dandy to get a bone marrow transplant, but the reason it would have saved his life is because Donny Ray had an identical twin--hence the 100% certainty of a match...
