i live in memphis and all the scenes such as dannys club etc are all true as the streets and sites. i work for the memphis police dept. i just recently saw this movie for the first time, and don't remember a Bruiser Stone in Memphis. so i was wondering if the movie was fiction? if so i wondered why they picked on Memphis as being its dish towell

shareI don't think they portrayed Memphis in a negative way. This movie easily could have taken place in any other US city. They probably just used real locations to add an element of realism so it didn't feel like some anonymous place.

Just because it's set where you live, or includes a few real locations, doesn't mean it has to be a true story. I don't know where you come up with the dishtowel reference, because it doesn't reflect negatively on Memphis. Every city or town has its share of upstanding citizens, lowlifes, and many in between. Finally, it's set in Memphis because that's where Grisham set the novel, like many of his others.

shareGrishman is from the south so all of his books take place in the south. The fact it takes place in Memphis has nothing to do with it being negative , it was just his way of including the south in his novels. Im on my 3rd Grishman novel and all three have taken place in either Tennessee or Mississippi. It's where he grew up and he likes to show it.
shareI worked 3 days on this movie as a Featured Extra and they cut the entire scene out. The scenes I worked in basically covered all of Chapter One in the book. Got to eat lunch with Damon once.
