1998 Academy Awards
This was a late November release, with a legend directing it and an all-star cast. Good movie. Why wasn't it nominated for any Oscars?
shareBecause there was nothing Oscar Worthy in this movie. It's a good movie but not ground breaking or anything that hasn't been seen in dozens and dozens of other movies taking place in courtrooms.
shareI find it a very average courtroom movie with a straightforward no-gray area plot of an idealistic lawyer on one side and the big bad insurance company and its stable of corruptible lawyers.
There are no layers, no subtext, no profound issues.
There's nothing wrong with that as long as the movie has no pretensions.
