1993 thriller movie shown for the year 1980, deliberate goof

Early in the movie, it's the year, 1980, or just before. Up-and-coming disc jockey, Howard Stern, has his first celebrity meeting with a B-actress, Brittany Fairchild. They watch her hit, thriller killer movie, which is not identified.

But I know it. The movie shown in the movie theater is titled, DIE WATCHING, filmed in 1993, starring Christopher Atkins of 'Blue Lagoon' fame. The actress shown in that movie and 'Brittany Fairchild' are indeed the same actress in real life, 'Melanie Good'. For a direct-to-rental-video thriller movie, 'Die Watching' was pretty good. Anyway, I don't know if anyone caught the director's deliberate goof. It must have been humor.
