Did the fight with Pig Vomit actually happen??

When Howard was in Pig Vomit's office on the phone with Robin - on the air, when he got into a fight with Pig Vomit...did that actually happen?

The fight was really with a program director named John Hays. I remember hearing this live on WNBC back in 85 when it happened. It was great!
