Howard Stern aside, this was actually a really good movie.

Even if you're not the biggest Stern fan, this movie is more than decent. Would even go so far as to say it's underrated. I don't even like Howard Stern all that much but if this movie is on, I'm watching it!

You can't say 'Howard Stern aside' when he plays himself and caries the entire movie on his back.

I agree too though. Very interesting, and as good as other biopics like The People vs. Larry Flint.

Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

No he makes a good point. My father hates Stern but loved this movie

I hate both!

Not much about Stern has ever appealed to me, so I'm not keen on watching this, but I can see how it might transcend it's subject and could be an unusual winner. Maybe some day, but won't go out of my way.

I always expected this to be a crappy cash in on a big name...and it turned out to be one of my favorite comedies.

I can take or leave Stern but I thought the movie was very very well done and worthwhile watching.

I'm no fan of Stern's shows, but yeah, the movie was fun!

You'd think the director would have gone on to a fabulous career after that, because Betty Thomas managed to make a good movie with a leading man who had an obnoxious personality and no training acting. But her last feature film was "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel" in 2009.

Years ago, I remember having the same reaction.

I don't hate Stern but I don't really like him either.

Yeah, I watched this movie for the first time in a while recently and felt it might even be worthy of the Criterion Collection in the future with how good the quality of the film is from a filmmaking standpoint.

reply

I've never seen the film, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

I'd never heard of Howard Stern until my college friend insisted I read Private Parts, which had just been released in paperback, telling me it was the funniest book of all time. I read it, and thoroughly enjoyed it, though not enough apparently to make me a fan, because to this day I've still never listened to his show. I've seen excerpts shared on social media here and there, but that's about it. I have no strong opinion about Stern, or even any sense of what he stands for.

I re-watched it a couple years ago to see if I still enjoy it now that I hate Stern's guts. Yup, it's a good movie. That said, I've always thought Stern's acting was very weak in this. He's a little stiff and his makeup is a little jarring. They really tried hard to pretty him up.
