Emma Thompson is great as Hillary!!!

Yup.

It's Cosmo...He's Chinese.

But with a questionable American accent.

Do I look like a people person?

reply

Yeah, Thompson is so perceptive in her portrayal; I love her body movements when "Hillary" is dancing; just how a self-contained, ambitious yet still-wanting-to-be-with-it Baby Boomer would move around trying to be hip but looking anything but!

emma thompson is a wonderful actress, but i just couldn't stand her accent.
one minute it was purely english, then a twang of irish..haha..but surprisingly, adrian lester gave a convincing american accent!

reply

Oh come one...if you didn't know she was English, you wouldn't hear an English accent. American English has about 2,000 different dialects. There's no trace of her British English...none. She did not switch from British to American...she sounded completely midwestern, and if you had your eyes closed the whole time and did not know that it was an English actress playing the part, you'd never hear her "accent".

If Hilary Clinton is anything like Emma Thompson's character in this film, then I will register my butt and vote for her for President. I loved that line from Kathy Bates about the "cheated on" is always the one who goes to hell - I think that was a pun in that yeah, the character continued to worry about the political aspirations despite learning that her husband was cheating on her left and right which says a lot about morals there, but it also showed that she really did care that he was cheating on her and so again, she was suffering in hell that way. So it's like a double meaning: she went to hell because of lack of morals sort of thing, but also is in hell because of her husband, suffering. Great script!

Hope Davis was even better as the real Hillary in HBO's 'The Special Relationship' with Dennis Quaid as Bill Clinton.

Frank: Just a man.
Harmonica: An ancient race.

reply

Not really, but through no fault of her own. Emma Thompson is way too human and likeable to make a convincing Hillary.

I guess the meek can inherit the Earth now. It looks like the stupid aren't doing anything with it.

Emma portrayed "Hillary" to perfection. If there was any truth to the portrayal, clearly H. was/is in control of the relationship. Which makes me wonder. . . who was really president during Clinton's administration?

reply

Oh there's no wonder there. Hillary was in that he would have never been elected without her, but also, and I'm not saying Romney would have won, but a large part of strength behind Obama's re-election came from Hillary as his Secretary of State.
