WTF? was all that singin' + dancin' in Pineview..???

i wont bash the movie cuz i did find it entertaining...
but both of the Pineview scenes were there singin' and dancin', shuckin' and jivin', hootin' n hollerin' was way over the top in a post apacolyptic America...these guys had way to much time to practice and do dance choreography while they should of been organizing against the Holnists..
those scenes were far fetched even for this movie...

I think any form of entertainment would be welcome in a media-less environment. Hell, they even enjoyed Costner's crappy Shakespeare with a mule playing a key character.

Most people don;t want to fight. Most would rather be left alone to sing and dance. Pineview was a very artsy-fartsy town. Remember how pleased they were when they heard that they got Broadway up and running again? Yeah. They were a town of artists- not fighters.

Post-apocalyptic hipsters they were.

I assumed the song were written by Tom Petty since he camoed in the film, and so got some lengthy screen time.

At least one is an acoustic cover of "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone.

Agreed!! Music has a power that transcends

Back in the middle ages and other times villagers would sing and dance. Not all the time, but Costner had brought them good news so they were celebrating. Possibly for the first time in years.

Anything to brighten up the mood/cheer the spirits in a time of sorrow/hardness/stress...

That's not important at all though. THEY HAD POWER!!! I was surprised to see all the colored bulbs outside when they were "shuckin' and jivin', hootin' n hollerin'" (wtmff, btw?!!?!?!? rurtrd_facepalm.jpg)!

reply

Shhhh. Don't look at that. It's like "Zombieland" where the streetlights were on in some scenes. It's been months since the Zombie Apocalypse and the streelights are still working? Let's hear it for the power company.

reply

In the scene where Michael burns the flag there's a wind turbine in the background, so I assumed their power came from that.

lol can't even get away from hipsters after the end of the world, dammit.

...then whoa, differences...

Since they knew "Come and Get Your Love" which dates to 1974, I found it a bit of a stretch that none of them caught on to the Postman's "Richard Starkey" reference.

reply

Why? There are many people that don't know who Richard Starkey is, besides it is not outside the realm of possibility that two people could have the same name.

No doubt there are many people who don't know Richard Starkey is Ringo, however I'd venture a guess that the percentage of those who do rises precipitously among artsy types with a love of '60s music, which is what the Postman was dealing with. Even in a "same name" scenario you'd expect someone to at least remark on the similarity.

I mean, if I were trying to put one over (even if I had the best of intentions like Postman had) on a group of sculpture enthusiasts, I wouldn't tell them the president was Auguste Rodin.

Although to be fair, when you're writing about post-apocalyptic dystopia, I guess verisimilitude isn't a screenwriter's job No. 1.

Auguste Rodin?

reply

Auguste Rodin was an 19th century French sculptor and artist. It was pretty random for the previous poster to mention Rodin since most people don't know of him. I don't even know why I know who Rodin is. Not like I'm overly familiar with art history. But there you go...

Funny thing killin' a man. You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna have.

They probably work during the day then party at night. There isn't much else to do after sunset and it is good for morale.

That band did sound a bit too polished for a post-apocalyptic war-torn wasteland 😁
