Nobody likes it but the people

Most of the comments I read here, on the Picture Pefect (1997) message board, are diametrically opposed to what the professional critics said about the film. IOW, the critics think the film is "low brow," "manipulative," and -- I'm quoting verbatim here -- "silly and contrived." The posters to this board, however, are mostly pleased with the picture.

Frankly, I thought Picture Perfect was just fine. No Casablanca or Gone With the Wind, but it was an okay film. The critics were especially vicious about the final scene, whereas I thought it was about as good as it could get, given what had come before. So why the disagreement between the pros and us "just folks?"

I think I've got it narrowed down. The heroine, Jennifer Aniston, must not be considered worthy of critical praise. I say this, not only because of the negative critical comments about Picture Perfect, but also because of the slings and arrows heaved at her for Derailed (2005). It's the same on that website: The critics all hated it, the folks just loved it.

I'm no superfan of Jen's, but it does make you wonder. Why all the hate from the professional writers?

English subtitles are a MUST on all DVD releases!

Yeah, I noticed it too. I liked the way the movie progressed, and how Jennifer Aniston played the ambitious lady to the hilt. The critics must be watching a different movie.

Although Kevin Bacon probably gives the best performance here, in my heart I was rooting for the other guy, Nick, to win her over at the end.

It doesn't upset me at all, how the ending took place at that other couple's wedding. The line, "Do you bunny hop?" kind of made my day. Notice that it makes for a symmetrical plot: that line is used at the beginning of the film, at another wedding.

Good flick. I'd watch it again.

Well, to be honest, this is sort of a fluff film. So was Derailed, though entertaining. She got good reviews for The Good Girl, though, so not all critics hate on her!

I just watched it for the first time. it was no Oscar winner, but the end blew it for me.

The end, she was a selfish bitch. If i was that bride I would have kicked her ass. Kate could have waited FIVE MINUTES for the ceremony to finish. Instead it was all about her. pay attention to ME! MY needs must be met right now! The writers, making the wedding party clap was complete bull. Kate RUINED that wedding. Only hopeless (there is a reason they use this word) romantics would think that ending was ok. Clearly, I am not a hopeless romantic.
