What is that flying thing that eats the boneheaded deputy`s face?

My understanding is that it is suppose to be a prehistoric dragonfly. Is that correct?

it's supposed to be a moth. a huge moth. at least that's what was in the book.

The "flying thing" was not a prehistoric Dragonfly. It's body structure was completely different and it didn't have translucent wings (as dragon flies always had).

I was thinking either a moth or a pteradactyl (sp?)

its like a giant moth.see what ever the thing phantom thing absorbs it gains its knowledge too.in the book it talks about how it ate one guy that thought it was the devil.soo now the thing thinks of itself as the devil.so any thought or fear anyone has ever had.real or imaginary.i can turn part of itself into it.as long as someone it has eaten has thought about it.

Someone in the town had been playing Resident Evil Code Veronica me thinks cause that Giant Moth looks excatly the same as the ones from that.
