Did anybody else get pissed after watching this?

I watched it & was really getting into it because of the isolation factor & the actors being clueless & then a complete left turn happened & it took me to a place where I couldn't give a *beep* about anything. If they would have just kept it in style of THE THING then I would have liked it but they had to turn it into a 90's bore fest movie where everyone explains something scientific every 10 minutes. I don't want smarts. I don't want a lesson in science. I want a tough group of people who realize they have to fight for survival at any cost & have to themselves just find out the beast's weaknesses & act on them. Affleck, the 2 women, & the 2 deputies should have stretched out & should have been the only actors in the movie. Then the movie could have been a simple action/Sci Fi movie with a battle between good & evil which people like. Then at the end when the beast dies & the characters are all beat up then you have a sence of completion. This movie took so long to actually get to the point that it was over ten minutes later it seemed. Towards the end I started thinking "why am I even still watching this movie? I don't care about anyone in it & I'm tired of seeing the possessed dead showing up tring to look scary & I don't even know what the Phantom is or what it looks like or why it possesses what it kills. What the hell does the deputy coming back have to do with the actual Phantom. It just didn't work & sucked. I had higher hopes from Joe Chappelle since he directed my favorite Halloween & Hellraiser 4 which was a good atmospheric movie but no such luck.

Well, all I can say is you should probably avoid Koontz horror stories from now on. He almost always takes something bizarre and fantastic (as in rooted in fantasy, not as in "wow, that's fantastic news!") and then proceeds to give a scientific explanation for it. That might not be your cup of tea, but many people love it.

I felt the EXACT same way. The way the girls wandered around the town at the beginning was very scary and effective in setting the atmosphere for a horror movie. Then the cops showed up and it was still pretty creepy with the thing at the window. After that, I totally lost interest and got pretty confused about what was actually going on. By the end, I was totally disappointed such a good idea and great start ended up where it did.

Same here, I was watching the first hour or whatever thinking, "ya know this isn't so bad what's the problem here?" Then Peter O'Toole shows up and the FBI/Miltiary and what's the worst part is he does a fantastic job in his role.
