ugh casting pisses me off

wtf? ok i haven't seen the movie but i've read the book and i just barely looked up the movie on this site and now i definitly don't want to see the movie! why did they go for almost entirely eye candy for casting? ok i'm not one of those anal people that reads the book and then says "they main actor has to be aproximately 6'3 like in the book", but COME ON NOW!!! why did they pick mostly young, good looking people for this movie and totally crap on the book's description? lisa is 14!! rose mcgowan did not look anywhere near 14 at the time and lisa's age was another thing very important to the story, because she clung to her bigger sister as a mother figure, and the bond that was formed between them at the end was very sweet. and come on liev what's his face as stu wargle? yeah maybe he's effective as a digusting lout, but really i imagined stu as this super pudgy gross guy that looks like he leaves a trail of slime behind! and what about the other and actually likeable debutys under bryce's charge? frank? jack? TALone of the most essential characters!!!!! grr and now i'm going to be nit picky but ben affleck and joanna going are wayyyyy too young and don't look like they could've been through all the things that bryce and jennifer went through, like losing a wife and having your young son in a coma! whatever i'm just pissed that they tried to turn one of the great dean koontz books into a typical cliche cheese fest (from what i hear) mixed with eye candy!

I totally agree with that comment above. I just barely found out that there was a movie of Phantoms and the date i am typing this Saturday, March 25 2006 7:07 AM and i found that there was a movie like three days ago only because I watched the preview on the video tape of "The Rage" (go ahead check it out) and i just looked this up and saw the *beep* cast and i am pissed, and Ben Assfleck is a retarded monkey who suks *beep* and come on rose Mcgowan as lisa? Lisa was a *beep* 14 year old girl and that totally throws off the movie to begin with. i'll bet they did the same thing as what they did to "Hideaway" same thing, the little girl was 9 years old and she went from an adopted partially hand deformed personification of GOOD in the book, to a bitchy rebel little twat teenager(alicia silverstone) who represented absolutely nothing. if they were going to *beep* up the movie they might as well have takin out a "daughter" character all together i still haven't seen a good Movie adapted from a Dean Koontz book, I am still waiting....

"We are still, in the desert"-Jarhead great movie

What about 'Intensity' with Molly Parker and John C. McGinley? Both brilliant in it in my view. Sadly, it looks to be unavailable.[and I believe the version I saw was cut, how I wish the full length would be released on DVD.] Re the ages of girls - It always seems that the producers have no 'bottle', going for an older female than is portrayed in print. The most obvious case I suppose, is Lolita. Wasn't it A.Silverstone in 'The Crush?'Again to old. It's difficult if the character's part calls for sexuality, but there's little excuse for that in
'Phantoms'.

he is perfect though--the rest of the cast does suck. if only he could have played Special Agent Prendergast should they ever cast that role.

Yer kiddin',...right? To me Ben Affleck was the one real major flaw in the movie (adaptation) I read the book years ago and loved it. So I was excited to see there was a movie about it on cable a while back. So I taped it. I didn't remember at the time that Lisa was that young. But after reading this post, most of the Book is coming back to me. And Liev Schriber (sp?) was miscast as well as Rose McGowan and Benny Boy et. al. The person who cast this movie shoulda' been fired at the outset. It doesn't anger me,...but it sure screw's up the intensity of the novel. If there was justice in the world,...this would be remade and toned closer to the novel. I was surprised to see Dean Koontz wrote the screenplay for this as well,...he left alot of important and creepy stuff out. But yea,...Ben Affleck was the main pain of the movie for me.
