Is it satan, pretending to be satan, or does it really believe its satan? I remember the professor explaining that it gains the knowledge of anything it eats and can take its shape. So did the creature eat satan?

It has been a while since I read the book but I remember that No it didn't eat the the devil. It ate a good deal of people, some of which were cruel, disturbed or downright evil. One of which was a heavy Satan worshiper who believed he was the devil, which in turn made the creature think that it was the devil.
