Liev Schreiber's character?

Was he supposed to be losing his mind, or was he some kind of sociopath?

I couldn't get a bead on what his character was supposed to be.

I was thinking the same

In the book he's just a fat, white trash idiot.

But I don't know what he is here.

I would say he's a weird guy who gradually starts to lose it.

I got the vibe that he was already a psycho before they even got to the town. I think the scary stuff going on there really got him going, and he really started to lose it. I think Liev did a good job with the part, the fact that he is always chewing gum and giggling is just freaking creepy, lol.

guys like Stu where they were cops/deputies they end up being creepers hitting on young women and getting away with it.

then if the gal rejects them, then guys like Stu would pull them over and arrest them just to annoy them
