Argento made the same film twice?

The film called "Opera" in 1987..is it the same story as this?

Yes, I finally was able to see "Opera." For years I saw it at the video store and I assumed it was an alternate title for Argento's "Phantom of the Opera," a film i didn't care for. I'm glad I figured it out because "Opera" turned out to be a great film, and classic Argento stuff.

The confusion just came from 2 different films by the same director having the word "Opera" in them. But yes, the two films could not be more different from eachother..

I guess I'm one of the very few people that enjoys the ending of Opera. It's wacky, weird and oddly beautiful.

I heard that the ending of OPERA was supposed to be a parody of THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Argento's OPERA is very much a post-modern reworking of themes from The Phantom of the Opera.
