questions for the girls who suffer from bullemia

I think it is so great that the girls on the other pst can discuss what they've been through with bullemia and anerexia. I'm an african american woman and i've only heard about bullemia in the caucasian race for some reason. its weird isn't it. I mean everybody gets cancer but only caucasion people (Women to be ezact) get bullemic. Why do you guys think that is? I had a good friend of mine (Who is white) confide in me that she was bullemic(We hadn't spoken in years before we talked) She told me what a control freak her mom was and she felt like she had no control over her life or something like that. So I guess my question to all you girls is was being in control of your life one of the reasons why you felt you had to throw up all the time or was it really something inside your head's that made you believe that you guys were fat. Please don't think i'm judging you I just have questions on the subject!

not only white people are bulimic. you just hear about it more in white people. but it affects people of all races and genders.
and it can be either. mostly i think it's because it's a stressful time and you need control.
and it's not "in your head". it's a disorder that causes one to think whatever. it's not their fault. it's something in their minds.
but i think less african americans are affected because it's more accepted for them to be bigger. for white people they think they have to be thin.
just look at the celebraties.

Although I agree with a majority of what you say, you said"It's not "in your head"" but then went on to say "it's something in their minds". I think people see the phrase "in their head" and think the person means they're making it up. But the truth is...the mind, the head, that's where the disorders are located.

I genuinely just want to lose weight, because I feel like I can't even look in the mirror, the way I look now. I am also a psych student however, and have learnt enough to see that the binge and purge cycle I do is a struggle for control. So it's a little bit of both.

i don't know where the OP lives but i live in the usa and the only bulimics i know are either asian or black. the only white girls i know that suffer from an ED are anorexic not bulimic.

no matter what race you are, or male or female, you can have an eating disorder. they are not limited to anorexia or bulimia, either.

Yes, and there's also Binge Eating Disorder, as well as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (EDNOS). EDNOS is when someone meets almost every criteria of a specific eating disorder, except for one. (Just an extremely vague description of what it is.)
