i loved how she did all her stunts.

i love that all the gymnastic techniques shown in this movie are really being performed by herself. she does all of the tumbling and all of the gymnastics and doesnt use a stunt double.

reply

actually they all have gymnasts as stunting doubles

reply

AJJ is a gymnast in real life, so it's more than likely she did her own stunts in this film.

reply

Chari Hunter is listed as her gym stunt double.

reply

Thats right^^ . Amy Jo did not do even half the gymnastic stunts in this movie. She was a top level gymnast in real life.. why did she not do most them in this movie?

reply

All actors have stunt doubles; no matter what they're doing. Dont assume because just because she has one period means she didnt do some and/or most of them herself. I havent seen the movie yet, so I cant speak on it directly--just talking in general.

I heard AJJ was once an aspiring Olympic gymnast until she suffered a severe injury, but it didn't say what. It is possible that she needed a double to handle some stuff that she couldn't do due to the injury.

Plus with that fall from the uneven bars it may have been hard for her to achieve that particular stunt safely.

Just a thought.

you gotta understand yes she is a good gymnist but you cant have your lead actor get hurt

Exactly.

And its quite obvious she did her own stunts in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. She does a good amount of her stunts in this movie, but its pretty obvious when its not her. Her double has muscular legs.

I think it was great she did some, but i had done some acting with a group for a certificate for a media course...
They wouldn't let us do any type of dangerous stunts...
One of the boys was a gymnast and they would not let him

In the video for love don't cost a thing
JLO was running and she got severely hurt
So in a film with stunts like these they would not let the actress or actor get hurt so they use stunt doubles
There is a reason for it...
A jolly good one too
Even in ET they had stunt doubles
So the actors would not get hurt or injured riding the bikes.

It is amazing how they film it really really well to look like the actors/actresses

Girls' Life
What other roles have you had?

Amy Jo Johnson
I did a movie called Susie Q that plays a lot on the Disney Channel. Then I did two movies of the week, one called Killing Mr. Griffin and another called Perfect Body about an anorexic gymnast.

Girls' Life
Do you have a favorite?

Amy Jo Johnson
I loved Perfect Body, because one of the stunt doubles was Kristie Phillips. She was my hero as a gymnast, and then I got to work with her so that was fun.

Girls' Life
Did you have a stunt double?

Amy Jo Johnson
Oh, yeah. I did all the basic moves and stuff, but the hard stuff I couldn't do anymore. I hadn't done gymnastics in about five years, so I was a little rusty!

Good stuff; thanks for that.

While watching the movie I pretty much guessed Amy did some of the moves, but used a stunt double for others. As someone else pointed out, the stunt double's legs were obviously different than Amy's. Much thicker and more muscular.

But it was appropriate to cast Amy Jo Johnson, Cathy Rigby, and Wendy Malick in the film. Johnson and Rigby were both former gymnasts, and probably saw what was depicted in the movie happen in real life. Wendy Malick was a fashion model when she was younger, and the pressure to be thin is prevalent there, too.

exactly...all about liability

The injury was a chipped elbow if I remember correctly. I don't know if it was before or after this movie but there it is.

reply

Two possible logistical reasons that come to mind are cost and time: the stunt's time might be cheaper than a well-known actor's time, and with a stunt you could shoot their scenes along with the actor's scenes on the same days (different sets).
