Thank you so much for the info on the title this is the only movie I have yet to order. Since I've seen P&P, I just cannot get enough of Matthew. He is the greatest. I have never in my life been so taken by someone. He simply is perfection.

I understand what you mean by your adoration of Macfadyen, but is that really all you could post after seeing such a movie?

reply

i cannot agree with you more...i have purchased every movie he has ever made and have watched P&P over 57 times on my TIVO...my husband thinks im crazy...but he has "bewitched" me...I am obsessed...You are so right..he is simply "perfection."

It's called warriors because that is the name of an armoured truck the British soldiers used with a gun mounted on the front. I'm not sure American viewers would have understood the reference.

That's right, the Warrior is basically a turreted APC - but there are repeated references to the Warrior vehicles so I figure it's there for overseas audiences to pick up.

Mind you, the title of this film is not JUST about the vehicles - it's ironic, since we're following the story of a lot of soldiers - professional warriors - who are in a position where they're not allowed to do what they've been trained for, and have to sit back and watch events.

Similarly, I'm pretty sure the call signs of the two principal Warriors are intended to be ironic - that is, 'Romeo' and 'Juliet', since that's also a reference to a story of two warring factions.

Lt Col Bob Stewart, the commander of the first British detachment into Bosnia, The Cheshire Regiment, named his Warrior AFV (armoured fighting vehicle) "Juliette". It was the commanders prerogative to "name" his vehicle. I think Stewart's wife was called Juliette. None of the other Warriors in the Cheshire battalion had names. But the film-makers obviously thought it fun to pick up on the reference, and name the other vehicle Romeo. Which is the standard British phonetic alphabet term for the letter "R", so entirely plausible, since Juliet is the phonetic alphabet term for "J".

It may help US viewers to note that the FV510 Warrior IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle), that the film is named after and that we Brits use, is pretty much equivalent of the M2/M3 Bradley used by US Army.

reply

It was renamed because the action movie "The Warriors" is a very popular movie in the US of A and they wanted to avoid confusion, I think.

That seems very likely - it's difficult to look this film up on IMDB without going through the Michael Beck film first...

Followed by the appearance of a bunch of heavily armed Toms with fixed bayonets who are going to be a bit annoyed if there aren't some full bottles to go with the empties.
