DVD Version

Has anyone else purchased the DVD and found that the scene where they tap the stones together (best scene of the movie) towards the end is deleted? I've purchased 2 thinking it was an error on the DVD, but both have this scene cut. I'd like to get this movie (the full version) on DVD if possible. I am just wondering why they would cut that scene? Anyone watching this movie for the first time on DVD would miss this awesome part. To me it brings the whole thing together and shows the women never lost their courage or faith. Thanks.

I have the DVD, but I never saw that scene. Maybe I just missed or something, but I know that when they show some movies on television, they sometimes play alternate versions of the movie. I don't understand why they do that.

All we can do is hope they release another version of the actual RELEASED film. Until then, I will watch the VHS tape I recorded off of HBO - the DVD will gather dust on the shelf. :)

I am SO glad this happened to someone else on a film I have seen a bunch of times!

i noticed this scene missing from the DVD. I ALSO noticed a line missing from my DVD version of "The Color Purple" that I really felt was a pivitol line, and the people over on that board told me I was crazy, and that the line NEVER appeared in the movie!

I know this movie and "The Color Purple" like the back of my own hand, and i KNOW there were scenes/lines deleted from BOTH!

I wonder why they did this?

My DVD is the same way and I agree with you the stone tapping scene is the scene sums up the movie. I think it left out anther scene involving Rose and her husband anyway i bought the vhs version and it was in that one

Update 2013: looks like Amazon now has the Director's Cut available on streaming only for $9.99. I'm afraid to buy it though after the debacle with the DVD (which I am considering trading in).

On the TV version I distinctly remember a full, uncut scene where Wing was drenched in gasoline and then burned to death, and that image of her screaming and flailing around til she finally dropped dead stuck with me for as long as I remember. But on the DVD I purchased, they cut it down, well most of it, you see her get lit up but then they cut quickly to the crowd cringing and screaming but don't show poor Wing again til she was on the ground.

But they kept the tapping stones scene intact. And yes, I always loved that part.
