Brent Spiner

Wasn't Brent Spiner hilarious in this movie? He's so brilliant. And sexy.

:D

He was just about the best thing in this whole movie!

Gil Godwyn: I'm your worst nightmare: a song-and-dance man raised on a military base.

-or-

Gil Godwyn: When that old bag makes me VP....!

All good stuff - very 'unData-like'.

OMG!!! I was watching that movie at around 1 in the morning on I.T.V.1, whn I should have been doing my history homework (my desk is next to the t.v...what can I say) Anyway I thought it was kind of boring and annoying and only recognised Walter Matthau as the guy from "DEnnis. Later however ( I switched on and off) I was like hold on a minute...I recognise him! Its brent spoiner!!! With a BLOODY STUPID moustache!!! After freaking out for a while I wondered why he looked younger than tng, and concluded that yellow make-up can be very aging :P. I then watched it untill the advert break after that godwyn guy was in his bed sniffing the pillows. It was 1.34 by then so I wandered off to bed. Does anyone else think its gross that charlie was making out with a girl who looked around 60 years younger than him? Or is it just me? Oh well, I didn't see the end, so could some-one post what happened? Thanks!

Spoiler:

So Charlie arranges for Gil to end up in the "old bag's" room and meanwhile takes the woman he thinks is rich to Gil's bed. Meanwhile Herb's messing things up with the woman he's falling for. In the end Gil ends up saying something really bad in front of his boss and gets demoted, both men get the women - oh, and Charlie's girl is not rich, they're both gold diggers. However Charlie saved the check of the ton of money he had won gambling. Everyone except Gil lives happily ever after.

You should really watch the whole thing. Brent Spiner has an awesome singing voice, though because he's playing the anal retentive Gil you really can't tell how good. When he sings Oya Coma Va it's Gil is so tightly wound about it that it's comical. I'm one of the lucky people who managed to get Mr. Spiner's "Ol' Yellow Eyes Is Back" album when it was newly released plus while I didn't get to see him in it, I do have the soundtrack to 1776.

Really, Out To Sea IS a good movie despite what certain reviewers are claiming. You should watch it.

It's unfortuant that Mr. Spiner's latest role is in The Aviator with that hack Leo DiCaprio. So much talent in a movie with a no-talent. Such a shame.

Walter Matthau was 77 when this was filmed, Dyan Cannon was 60. That's a 17 year difference, not a 60 year difference. You must think that either Dyan Cannon was only 17 or that Walter Matthau was 120. In real life, she married and had the daughter of a man who was 33 years older than her.

reply

Dyan just happens to look a lot younger, except around her eyes. Her eyes look 60, but the rest of her looks 40.

Cary Grant, right? That's who Dyan Cannon was married to.

I just loved this guy! Almost everything he did craked me up! But my favorite part with him is when he threateningly says to Walter Matthau "I've got my eye on you!" and Walter replies "You're not so bad yourself." That kills me everytime!

Thanks for the quote from LADYHAWKE< my alltime favorite love story.! ST from OHIO

Any Trekkies here? I liked him in this movie, but no where near as good as his performances as Commander Data.

"It's all in good fun Data."

"Okay" (pushes Crusher into freezing water)

BTW, if you want to hear Spiner's voice, watch Star Trek Insurrection to hear him sing a selection from "HMS Pinafore."

Spiner also appeared on Broadway in "Sunday in the Park with George" with Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters. Pre STNG and this movie. Got his start there, like so many others. I have the soundtrack to this movie also. It's GREAT.

reply

the scene when he sings sway is the best scene in this movie.

reply

This is one of my favorite performances of his! He's absolutely hilarious, and a really great singer... If you want to hear his "real" voice, get the soundtrack to 1776!

I totally agree with chesterfox. Brent Spiner really made this movie with his performance. It would have been easy to over act that part.
