Edward Mulhare

He died before this movie was realesed, yet he doesn't appear ill in the film. Was it a sudden death or was he just able to hide his illness well?

reply

He died from lung cancer. He didn't look bad at all in his final film. His cancer probably began speading rapidly after the filming completed and that combined with his age probably expedited his illness. He'll forever be Devon Miles to me.

Aye --

Devon was a good role for him, considering how often he played the bad guy. But for me he is eternally Captain Daniel Gregg, from The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.

ah yes, I remember Devon Miles.. Knight Rider if I'm not mistaken,, I grew up in the 80's and I know that character name sounded soooo familiar.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite

He had already undergone throat surgery and needed to hide the scarring, which is why he's wearing high collars onscreen. Trouper till the end!

Actually I read that he knew about his lung cancer, and that the doctors didn't hold out much hope. He was offered the part, which was filmed on a real cruise ship, fi ished it, came home, and he declined in health rapidly after that, finally entering a hospital, where he slipped in and out of comas for three months, and then died.
