Cate Blanchett

I finally got around to seeing this film on DVD last night - it's been on my to-see list since it was in theaters! Anyway, now I truly understand why Cate Blanchett was chosen to play Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator. The role of Lucinda (great job, Cate, by the way) would certainly have been played by Hepburn if this film had been made in an earlier day, don't you think? And now that I think about it, I could see Hepburn playing Elizabeth I too! It's more than just looks - it's attitude.

Cate Blanchett in this role wasn’t as self-aware as she’s become in her recent work.

She really was wonderful in Oscar and Lucinda.

She is great in everything she does. Watch her in Blue Jasmine.. She is fabulous in it.

Have you seen Oscar & Lucinda, flower? I got excited when I saw someone had posted on this board because I loved it. Beautiful film, with great performances.

Cate has been excellent in everything I've seen her in, so far.

Yes just watched it.. I love her..But I felt the movie was too long, although beautiful, until the last half hour when it really got good. Have you seen Blue Jasmine with her? She is great in it. Also in Queen Elizabeth..One cannot stop looking at her when she is on screen. Her facial expressions are so intense in every moment.

I'm happy you liked it, overall :)

I don't think I've seen Blue Jasmine. Woody Allen's lost my interest. But hey, if it's on Netflix I'll give it a watch just to see her.

reply

Not a typical Woody Allen movie. She is a woman who gets divorced, and goes to live with her sister for a bit. She lost her wealth, and we see her struggle with that and other issues. Give it a go, its worth it.

Just looked for it on Netflix, no go. Oh well, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the recommendation.

What I do is I DVR tons of movies on Showtime or Starz or HBO. Then I watch them when I can. If you have cable, push the button that lets you see all the movies coming up in the future. Do that on each channel that has the movies you like. Then tape what you want for later. Eventually you will catch Blue Jasmine and other movies. Thats how I stumbled on Oscar and Lucinda.
Have a good night and I am sure we will meet up again on other threads. Let me know if ever you have a good recommendation.

reply

I don't have cable anymore, and no DVR either. Between streaming on Netflix, and watching things on YouTube, that is (usually) enough.

But yes, eventually I'll find Blue Jasmine and give it a try.

The only recommendation I can think of at the moment is The Fall, with Lee Pace. It's another incredibly beautiful movie, wonderfully acted, and not as sad as Oscar and Lucinda.

You have a good night as well. I've seen you posting here and there on other boards, and am sure it'll happen again.

Thanks Cat,, I will add to my list of movies to catch.
