8 years old

Can you believe that I saw this film when I was about 9 years old!! LOL! I've never been affected by movies (except horror) but looking back (I'm 16 now) whoever let me watch this film (I think it was my brother) was HUGELY irresponsible but it is still pretty funny that i watched this film so young! Now that I think of it I grew up watching loads of films that were really really inappropriate but I don't think I am any different because of it -if anything it is better than being wrapped up in cotton wool at a young age.

Anyone got any thoughts on this subject?....

I don't see the point of letting a 9 year old watch such a film and do actually consider it irresponsible. This is an emotionally draining film and one of the most violent (in it's authenticity) I have seen. What could a 9 year old take from this? Nothing possitive I think. Your brother should have thought more of you. Did he let you sit and watch Don't Look Now as well? Sorry young man, I don't even think you should be watching such films now as the themes are not easily understood by a 15/16 year old.

lol thanks for your concern
i dont think the film enabled me to take anything positive from it (aside from teaching me some new words) but on the other hand i really dont think it affected me either. agreed that i shouldnt have watched it and many people of 18 y/o are also too young for this film probably - however it didnt affect me as it may have affected other people i just thought i would share it with people because there was a debate on the trainspotting board about 13 y/o being too young to watch that film.

Some 8 year olds have to live-out similar scenes, but good point regarding age-appropriate cinema.
How old was your older brother when he let you see it, anyway?

well i grew up and was brought up in exactly the same area as portrayed in the film and i heard far worse and saw things you wouldn't believe-it is such a good film in that it is shown as it would actually happen if that makes sense-and no i would not let my kids see it for a few years yet

I agree with the latter, there are kids that grow up seeing and hearing far far worse than this. Of course it's wrong to let an 8 year old sit down and watch this film becuase not all 8 year olds would be able to cope with this kind of film, but it's just ignorance saying that the themes in this movie wouldn't be understood by 15/16 year olds. Especially people that grew up in this type of environment.

Now, why does the title say 8 years old, and the actual post says 9 years old?
