i absolutely loved this scene, when Ray is talking to Jamie Foreman about his dad. I just think it's so sad, the way that he can talk about that and not even realise that he IS his dad. I think it's the most important scene in the film. A rare moment of quiet reflection amid the chaos.
Also good is the scene when he's on his own getting drunk in the house, just before he smashes it up. Again, i think it's incredibly poignant, and shows what a great actor Ray Winstone is.
i totaly agree with you.the scene of the bit the hell out of his wife also was a remarkable peace of act by ray.its the same old role he had on ladybird ladybird if you remember.

I read an interview with Gary Oldman and he talked about his experiences as an alchoholic saying that he used to drink two big bottles of vodka before midday, throw up in his shower and then talk down the phone to people without it even being plugged in, just cause he was that hammered like.
I get the feeling Ray's actions are a mixture of Oldman and hios Father's experiences as alchoholics.
Anyone shed any light on this?

I love this scene. Ray Winstone's acting was brilliant. Even though his character did a absoulutley horrific thing to Val I found myself sympathising with him in this scene found myself crying when he said, "Why didn't you ever love me?" My favourite scene along with the "I turned 30 today and I feel so fu**ing old. I'll find someone who can love me, someone kind" scene. Winstone and Burke, both amazing in this film.
