Was Ray Winstone really drunk while filming the monologue?

Was just wondering if Ray Winstone was really drunk while filming the monologue scene. Each mannerism seemed so authentic and entirely relateable to anyone who has been drunk before. If it was acting, he deserved an oscar based on that sequence alone!!

Martin Sheen was drunk when filming the first scene in Apocalypse Now. Yes, "it's called acting", it does not mean the guy was not actually drunk. If you were filming a scene like that, don't you think it would look more authentic if you actually got drunk right before you started shooting the scene?

All that being said, I do not know the answer to the question, but I would not be surprised if he was indeed drunk.

Not necessarily - for instance, when Richard Burton was asked this question about his 100% "drunken" performance in Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf, he commented that he wouldn't know how to play a drunken character when actually hammered.

yeah that's what i was wondering. i mean the way all the muscles in his face are composed are exactly what people look like when they're drunk. i mean, i've seen other actors do some good acting drunk but this blew them all away and i'd be interested to know the process if it isn't just getting wasted.

Getting drunk is generally dissaproved of on film sets. Even if an actor wants to do it to get into character, alcohol generally isn't allowed onto film sets.
