Don't tell me Valerie ends up back with Ray.

I understand that this isn't a hollywood film, and victims of abuse are often tied to their abusers by an invisible rope of dependence, but I find it hard to believe that any of them would have forgiven him so quickly (however many weeks, months had passed). Even the Scotsman was laughing along with them at the end there.
