I didn't saw this movie, only the original. And that was really heavy. Really morbid. In this one it saids: "R for strong morbid violence". I think it's how the original and i think you can't see this with 12. I'm only 15 and i saw movies like Freddy vs. Jason and Jason X. But by this one i can't sleep. In my opinion you couldn't see this movie.

reply

Absolutely not Ok for 12 year olds in any way whatsoever. Horror themese, necrophilia, death, rape, murder, naked spreadeagled corpses, implied violence, a guy forced to got his hand off with a rusty saw...... Not in any way suitable.

reply

I swear some people just can't handle all the violence and stuff like that but I'm only thirteen and I saw this just 3 years ago and thought it was great! It's very suitable for a 12 year old. If you like "Horror themese, necrophilia, death, rape, murder, naked spreadeagled corpses, implied violence, a guy forced to cut his hand off with a rusty saw......", then go see it! I've been watching stuff like this since I was 5 1/2 and I don't remember having a single nightmare ever........ Certainly you can. That is if you have the nerve enough to, of course. I swear if my dad hadn't of made me watch Nightmare On Elm Street when I was 5 1/2 my life would make no sense right now.......

Just call me Mrs. McGregor!

reply

how can a 12 year old even understand this movie? i thjink that would be impossible,

this kid scares me.

Who likes necrophilia other than necrophiliacs, who likes rape other than rapists. I guess you are saying that this movie is only suitable for necrophiliacs and rapists. If so, count me out.

reply

As a kid who watched many movies I shouldn't have at a young age I can say that movies like this are certainly not appropriate for someone the age of 12 which is actually the age I was when I saw this movie for the first time.

It's not about whether or not a movie makes you wake up in the middle of the night after having a horrible nightmare or if you turned out to be a serial killer. You kids, being young and immature are clearly missing the whole point and that is that you're simply not mature enough to be able to understand the mature themes being presented. At such an age your mind doesn't know how to process such information and you can wildly misinterpret things or come to the wrong understanding of things which can effect you badly.

Kids just want to grow up too fast these days. You've got 18 years to act like a kid and then the rest of your life you're expected to act like an adult. Enjoy your younger years.

Your parents are a disgrace and you are shameful for thinking having bragging rights for watching violent films is something to be proud of. Pathetic child.

Your parents are a disgrace

I'll agree with that. It's irresponsible, at best, and abusive/neglectful at worst, to let a prepubescent child (hell, post-pubescent child) watch horror films in general.

you are shameful for thinking having bragging rights for watching violent films is something to be proud of. Pathetic child.

This I don't agree with. That poster was relaying his/her experiences and using them as the basis for his/her argument against letting a preteen watch this movie. S/he was hardly bragging. Frankly, you're a little *beep* in the head if that's all you got from his/her comments. 😠

reply

When the previous poster listed the reasons that a 12-year-old shouldn't see this flick, there was omitted the bath tub scene where Mr. McGregor is shown fully naked, including pubic hair and penis (likely a body-double in his place), so while boys may not think anything of it, it is certainly not suitable for girls. If we want our kids to grow up warped and insensitive to any moral constraint, taking them to such movies is certainly what will help. Twelve years old is not the beginning of adulthood; kids even then should be spared the atrocities of life for as long as possible; they will be exposed to such things all too soon, whether parents like it or not.

That's not a body double, he does all of his own nude shots, always has. Also that moment is very brief, a literal blink and you'll miss it moment. I wasn't even sure I'd seen it.

The film is definitely not suitable for 12 year olds. I'm 18 and I'm virtually unscarable (seriously, I laugh at most of these 'worlds scariest films'). My parents wouldn't let me see this film when I was 16 and honestly? I'm glad. I watched it today and it is incredibly screwed up. It's a great film but it's very twisted. It's not the kind of thing you should see at the age of 12.

reply

12-year-olds (and children in general) are a lot smarter than they're given credit for, but I don't think a 12-year-old should see this. It's really twisted and I don't think there's any 12-year-olds who will be able to wrap their heads around this one. Though I'm against cencorship, the ratings are there for a reason. And 12-year-olds don't always understand the difference between fiction and reality when the fiction gets too twisted.

If I ever have kids, I wouldn't let them see this until they're 20. Last chapter. Last sentence. Period. End of book.

reply

He would never have a naked body double.. he perfers to appear nude in his movies. I've seen many of his films where he shows his man-hood!

reply

The naked human body is not dirty or wrong!

dead naked chick with grease poured on her @$$ and her eyes gauged out where before she was a drug-addled living zombie. That is really the innapropriate part!!

you twisted person you.

well, i watched it when i was 12 or 13 and i must say not!
cos i grew up sick and twisted!
no actually, i think it depends on your psychology.
Cos all it did for me is create a good taste in movies:)

reply

Well, I'm 12, and I taped this off the TV. They blocked out most of the bad stuff, so it's okay. That's what I'd do if I were you.

"Why do you call her Aunt Fannie?"
"Because we can't call her Aunt Bootie."

reply

I Watched it when I was 12 and I turned out just fine, except that I have violent tendencies, I like gore, any movie with chainsaws is something that I'd watch, Along with Random outlashes, etc, etc. So I'd say yea this movie is perfect.

reply

It depends what the 12 year old is like. If they like watching Chik Fliks mainly, then probably not. If they are like me, then it is perfectly suitable. I saw Candyman when I was 8 and I didn't have nightmares

reply

If you have to ask, the answer is no. As a kid, I could handle movies like this but I also never stopped and asked someone if I could handle it.

That being said, all twelve year olds are not alike and asking anonymous strangers who like movies if a movie is okay for you will not get you any credible answer. If you are on this board, you know what the content of the movie is, so make your own decision. If you watch it and end up with a few sleepless nights, it is your own fault.

why are people so hung up about censorship, if your a good, intellegent parent, there is no reason why you child can't watch a movie like this.

As long as you are willing to explain things like necrophilia etc. then this flick is fine! if not then you don't respect your children enough to be honest with them. My parents were always honest with me [no santa :(] and i am so greatful for that, lying to children results in an ignorant generation without the social skills to function properly! watch gore! watch blood! watch horror! have nightmares ! learn about the world!

reply

No no no. Not ok for 12 year olds, unless you want them to grow up way too soon. Let them be kids! Many of the elements (most, in fact) are unsuitable for 12 year olds.

reply

For God's sake, the ratings make it clear, but if u want to avoid these, just be careful what you watch, and that goes for everyone who asks this on these forums!

I'm 15 and I want to see this. But I can't sit through films like Saw or something. But I am desperate to see this. (Mainly because of Ewan) I need to know also how much nudity is actually in it. (Male nudity mostly...)

Hey I saw "The Vampire Lovers" when I was 8--full of blood and tons of female nudity (I'm a guy BTW) and I grew up normal! Most kids, if they don't understand something, will just forget it. There are lesbian sex dcenes in "Lovers" that I didn't remember!

I saw it when I was ten. Been watching violent movies and playing violent videogames all my life. Never started a school shooting, never did drugs, drink, smoke or break the law. I'm 19 years old now.

I watched Robocop 3 the day it came out. I fondly remember watching Mad Max 2: Road warrior as a little kid. I was desensitized to violence at an early age. That stuff just didn't phase me one bit throughout my later years. Right now I'm studying to be a psychiatrist. Hehe.

reply

There's so much stuff in this film that is not suitable for a child, such as the rape of corpses and a serial killer who cuts his victims' eyes out, postmortem.

While a really well-adjusted kid might be fine with this type of film, for the vast majority of children, it is just way too adult of a film. And, anyway, its only about a 2 out of four star film, so why bother?

Now, having said this, I'd like to make a comment about the fact that while I think NO film should be censored or deemed inappropriate in any way, I get really tired of seeing these posts asking if a particular film is okay for a child, for two reasons:

1) Why come onto a website and talk to total strangers about what is appropriate for your own child, and...

2)If you have any doubt at all, why not just let the kid be a goddamned kid for a little while longer. I mean, WHY does the kid have to see something like this? What is the point?

reply

I absolutely agree--let them be kids. I'm 44 and I'm shocked by what kids know. I had never even heard of necrophilia until I was 19 years old, and was studying abnormal psychology in college.

Definitely NOT suitable for a 12 year old. I would say at least 18 to watch.

reply

wow seriously?.....
i saw this when i was 13 and that was last month
i wasn't traumatized or had nightmares
it all depends on the kid and kids parents.

reply

I was about 11 or 12 (17 now) when I first saw this... it took me about four tries to actually watch it from beginning to end. It was deffinitely creepy and at the time certain things made me blush a deep crimson.

Now I really enjoy this movie, it still has a very creepy feel to it although I know what is going to happen.

Long-term affects? Nick Nolte is the creepiest man alive, in my opinion. I could never shake that from my conscious. lol.

Appropriate for 12 year olds? You be the judge and determine whether or not if your son/daughter is mature enough to handle the material in the film.

reply

No 12 year old should see this. It is far too disturbing.

reply

I first saw this movie when I was about 16 or 17, I'm 23 right now. But either way I wouldn't let my child, if I ever have one, see this movie till their about maybe in there late teens. Cause as anyone can see unless they are really retarded, this movie is really not a child movie.
