Cover Art

I loved this film and I rented it without seeing the cover but after coming on here to vote for it, I have to say that the cover art is a bit misleading. Not once in the film does Hope Davis wear anything even closely resembling what she is wearing on the cover. Also, she looks like a confident and outgoing woman, judging from the cover art. This is not the case in the film. Like I said, I loved the film and I have no complaints. I don't myself and I don't think people should watch a movie because a girl is wearing a skirt but the point I'm making is that the character on the cover and the character in the film give off two totally different vibes. Overanalyzing? I don't think so. Just a observation. Anyone agree?

I agree, though maybe for different reasons. I have nothing against seeing a nice pair of legs, whether it's on a movie poster or in a movie itself, but to me the poster makes this movie look like some really typical, lame "chick flick". Those sorts of 2-dimensional romantic comedies, where the "romance", plot, and comedy gags are so trite, just make me want to puke. Next Stop Wonderland on the other hand was such a great antithesis of all that.

I totaly agree- just got this from Netflix after seeing it in Boston after it first came out, and I was struck too how the cover art had nothing to do with the story itself. But to read into it any more than "this is what they designed to sell/rent more movies from folks who are just looking at the cover" is silly. If you think about it would regular folks really be attracted to a movie about a sad nurse in Boston, a plumber who wants to be a marine biologist, and with a bossa nova soundtrack? But if it looks like there's a hottie in it and a cute guy, well that just opens up the movie to a wider audience.

Have to say a yelped when I saw that it was PS Hoffman as her bf- as I said, I had not seen this in ages. I actually think the movie was better the 2nd time around, and it was fun for an ex-BOS to see the sites.

The cover should have featured the puffer fish in his (or her) aquarium w/ Alan in scuba gear in the tank and Erin just outside of it looking in.

re: the Jaws poster: Um, that was opening scene of the film, as I recall . . .

I am just watching it on Netflix and logged on this board to say EXACTLY the same sentiment as the op. The cover art does NOT fit this film in any way. Based on the art, you would think this was a typical silly comedy, not an introspective, even melancholy movie with depth. Very bizarre choice for cover art.
