Well, Seaotter, I'm not surprised at all to see that so little people have seen this movie. This just isn't the kind of movie that the average visitor of some gigantic 30 something-rooms cinema wants to see. All they care for are over-the-top romantic comedies or action movies with enormous explosions, fast car chases and extreme fight scenes.
Since this movie doesn't belong to any of these two categories, this will never be a popular movie. Should that matter to those who like it? I hope not. Let's cherish the thought that we know better, that we have a different taste for movies, that we still prefer our movies to be somewhat realistic and that we can enjoy a good story, some fine acting and excellent music.
I guess I don't have to tell you that I loved this movie too and that I'll buy it on DVD as soon as I can find it. The only problem will be finding it. Since this is an indy movie, it will be quite a search, but that makes finding it only more fun I guess.

I stumbled upon this film on IFC, watched it, then watched it again a few days later, with my wife. Later, I bought the DVD, and have seen it two more times. Most of this is due to being smitten with Hope Davis, and her performance here (which MAKES the film).

shareI do. I have never been crazy about Hope Davis but I saw her in a whole different light. And the music.....it's delicious! I bought the soundtrack immediately and fell in love with Bossa Nova all ova.
shareActually I like Hope Davis (esp. in American Splendor) which is why I watched the movie in the first place. However, I do think that this is one of her best performances. And Phillip Seymour-Hoffman is hilarious.
