The Nephew -Available To Buy

This film is impossible to get even though it was only made seven years ago. Tried everywhere to get it in Ireland HMV, Golden Discs,Filmdrome. Does anyone out there now where I can get it out on video or dvd.

No Partick...but I have been trying since 2002 to get a copy. Blockbuster used to have it in stock, but that ended in 2005. I even called the distributor in California, with no luck. I am traveling to Ireland for Christmas and was hoping to find it there. If I do, I will get back with you.

Hi Patrick

I'm not sure if you're based here (Ireland) or not but very usually Eason's stationers or any of the other stores you mentioned will order the film for you if you ask them. Sometimes they will charge a small fee but sounds like you've been holding out for this film for quite some time so I doubt that's a problem :)

Best of luck!

Debbie

they were giving away free copies with the Sunday Independant (in Ireland) yesterday! this doesn't help much except that the film must be in circulation quite a bit in Ireland!

I bought this movie last year about this time, for like $5 at K-mart here in the states. basically it was in the bargain bin of dvds and i took a chance and it turned out good. try checking in bins in department stores like wal-mart or kmart and you might get lucky. it does exist on dvd.

As of this morning 7 copies are available on Amazon.com (USA) via indie seller shops. No brand new copies from Amazon directly.

Or do a search there or on google.com (link was at the top of the page).

This is interesting. Because it did occur to me some time ago that it might be a very wise idea to get a few extra ones. And a year or two after I rented the film I was in a video store and found several "previously viewed" copies in the cheapie sales bin. Rewrapped and in good shape. I grabbed several, then realized I was being greedy and left with only 3. All VHS. One went to a relative as a gift, one is totally MIA and thank goodness I still have the other one.

I checked a few of the sales links on Amazon and some actually say they are on DVD. This was not available last time I ever checked. I definitely want another copy. Not sure why, about what basically amounts to an obsession to be sure I always have one, at least. But if any version of it is really a collectors item then maybe it's not so crazy. Intuition? Either that or I need some serious help (o:

The advice in the above thread was good, I think. In the USA, if I was looking not online, I would try bargain bins in video stores, "five & dime" stores and the larger drug stores that also carry various and sundries. And occasionally you can find treasures in larger grocery stores that have a video section with a sales bin. I know in Europe the various stores can be organized quite differently. Not sure how it works in Ireland since I have not yet been there (think I read you were fom there-can't see the thread fom here). A last resort might be to see if a video store will sell you a copy from their catalogued rental stock. Might be easier with a privately owned store. Ours is owned locally. The woman who runs it will often make deals if she has extra copies of a film we are looking for, if we ask her nicely.

Best of luck in getting your own copy of, "The Nephew." I am sure you will find one soon if you haven't already.

Hi there,
I was wondering if you could help to refresh my memory about the end of The Nephew. I know chad gave joe the letters and went back to the US, but do you know if there were any other final conclusions to the film? Curious to hear about your opinion. Pat

Why would you want to buy that big pile of dung. It is portraying an Ireland that is invisioned in the imaginations of most Americans, an Ireland that does not exist. Apart from that it is a really really piss poor film.
