For a romantic comedy, this movie has the saddest ending I've ever seen. Jules and Michael were perfect for each other, real best friends, but because Jules had commitment issues, Michael was forced to settle for Kimberly. Not that Kimberly was a bad person, just that Michael and Jules seemed perfect soul mates, and didn't end up together due to very bad timing. Wish people didn't settle in relationships and marriage so often; it's very depressing. The saddest ending in a romantic comedy I've ever seem...so sad that I have to turn it off before the ending. :/

It's really the way this movie had to end but it does always leave me a little empty feeling.

The movie I found sad was "The Breakup." I really didn't expect it to go the way it did. I thought it was going to be a romcom, as you said. But it did teach an important lesson.

I have to say, I wasn't unhappy with the ending at all ... in fact, I didn't find it sad at all. I don't know if I can say I feel Michael and Jules were right for each other. The two people I felt were right for each other were Jules and George. Unfortunately, George is gay. Oh, well. Not every high-spirited, independent, career-oriented woman gets married, or married to the man of her dreams. Jules wrote her own ticket years before when she couldn't commit to Michael. Kimmie in my opinion was everything he needed and more. By the way, I thought the casting was perfect.

If Jules had caught him, she would have realized her mistake very quickly. She was temporarily insane. She got so involved in the chase and the challenge, she didn't see what a bore he was. They both would have been miserable, and divorced.

Yes, I find it refreshing actually that she ended up with someone else because you may know someone but it doesn't mean you'll be married.

Same here. They're better as friends. Also, the real love story is between Jules and Georges. Their friendship is gold.

I have to admit I was surprised the ending turned out the way it did. I find it sort of helpful though that she did find her own man anyway and was not left alone. He married his "better" best friend, whoopsies.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but the ending is one of the reasons why I love this movie. There are not many romantic comedies out there that end without the two leads together. The ending was realistic, and I liked that. It showed that things in life don't always turn out in your favor, but you can still overcome it and move on.

I thought this movie was sad, too...but I disagree with your assessment. I think the movie went out of its way to prove that Kim & Michael had genuine love for eachother. Plus, Jules is insane. Like, beyond insane. The stuff she pulled crossed a thousands lines!

I thought it was sad because, no matter how much you love someone, you can't make them feel the same way about you. I didn't take it as him settling at all...

You're absolutely right! He proposed to Kimmy without a thought in his head! Why?! Plus, he and Kimmy hadn't known each other for very long. I still enjoy this very much, though. Michael and Julianne really were perfect for each other!

Yeah but sometimes people can have a deeper connection with someone they just met compared to someone they've known for years.

Thirteen days from the day I met my wife (we actually first met in a wedding), we got together. Less than three months after we first met, we married. Now we've been married over three years already.

Love is a lot of chemistry. That's why you can't fake love. You are attracted to others through smell, which in turn alters the chemical balance of your brain. Suddenly you're madly in love. ;)

Anyway, in regards of the movie:

I found it refreshing that the ending was "sad". I'd rather have a sad, realistic ending, than a happy, unrealistic ending.

Julianne and Michael weren't great for each other. In fact, Julianne wouldn't have been great for anyone with self-respect of any kind, until the moment she did the right thing.

Julianne was a jealous woman who stopped at nothing to try to impose her will on others, while hiding behind the mask of a friend. Making the deceitful behaviour even worse. It didn't seem she gave a *beep* about her gay friend either. She was only nagging at him to come aiding her in her awful ways. Now that's self-centered!

Why nobody called the police on her is beyond me. She should be faced with the consequences of hurting or damaging innocent third parties as well. For example stealing that truck. The rotten thing is: those rich folks would probably save her @$$. Not knowing the evil intentions she had for their daughter.
