This movie,in my opinian was just brilliant. The way at first you suspect the president's son and so on..It was just great. And I think this is a great Westley Snipes movie. Way better than that Blade crap. This movie actually makes you think. Anyone else feel the same?
No, I actually thought that this movie was really predictable. I could see who it was from 1/3 in the movie and the ending was so laughable and cliche. It wasn't a bad movie but it definately wasn't a brilliant movie.
It's fun. but the ending really gets a bit self-parodic (the moment when the bad guy's wrestled down in front of the Chief, and then he gets to hear the Miranda oath "You have the right to remain silent...")
By the way, I doubt if any of this was really shot at the White House (see "filming locations")!
oh, no way it was shot in the white house. my guess is most of the sets were shot in toronto and a small crew did shots of the d.c. area. the ending is a bit lame, but overall good actors and good plot
I know for a fact that this movie was shot somewhere in Canada. The christian movie "Left Behind: World At War" is filmed in Canada and used the exact same White House location used in "Murder At 1600".
I agree. Watchable, predictable and entertaining. The final obligatory tunnel scene was a bit over the top. Snipes could have saved the day by merely stepping outside and talk to the media who were always mobbing him, but there always must be an action finish. A fun show.
I think there is an explanation to this - to protect thre presidency. If Snipes show the story to the media while the President announce his resignation. Could he still be the president if the whole world got to know that he stepped down just to protect his son from murder charge?
I enjoyed the movie, but thought that Alan Alda and Ronny Cox should have switched roles. As much as I like Alda, he just isn't effective as a tough Secretary of Defense, and Cox doesn't play a liberal president well.
This was probably done specifically to keep viewers guessing. Of course the second you see Ronny Cox, you think, "Oh! He did it. He was the bad guy in Total Recall and Robocop" You would NEVER think that Hawkeye Pierce is the bad guy. Good casting. Something similar but different was done in "Shoot to Kill". All of the suspects were played by actors who all played bad guys at some point in their careers which kept people guessing.
I must agree that the film definitely is constructed in a way that you never suspect who the killer really is. Snipes gives one of his best performances as does Alan Alda, whose performance is positively chilling.
Check out THE OUTSIDERS, THE PERFECT STORM, and THE COTTON CLUB. The only reason you don't notice how bad she is in THE PERFECT STORM is because mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio is so much worse, she makes everyone else in the film look Oscar-worthy.
One major plot hole I also consider to be is the President's reaction to the blackmailing of his NSA (played by Alan Alda). The latter presented evidence which accused his son of murdering the girl and then the president just accepted it? Shouldn't his first move would be to confront his son ASAP? And this way he would get at least suspicious and demand further investigation, certainly not accepting his resignation at once!
I've been going back and watching many 90's movies lately, just watched this one again, and I can't get over how cool so many of them are. It was just another great decade for movies just like the 80's was. The only thing I didn't like about this movie was we didn't get to see Diane Lane naked, if that would've happened it would have made the movie even better. Lol
I could watch this movie over and over and never get sick of it, kind of funny so many can't just watch it and enjoy it for what it is.
One wonders why you bother to ascertain whether various movies are 'cool' or not if opining that seeing an actress in the nude is a key factor in making a movie better!! Sicko. Get a life.
