Is hate ever good or justifiable?

This movie teaches us that hate only brings more hate, and that it stems from ignorance and misfortune, where sadness would be more in its place. But if this is true, why have we humans evolved to possess the ability to hate?

Are there ever any advantages to hate at all?

Sometimes, the best answer is a more interesting question.

I suppose it's "good" for surviving. I write good in "" because it is not really good, just a benefit. If you take something away from me, if you kill my offspring and limit my genes survival, hate will give me an incentive to kill you.

Its all dependent on the context where hate is a factor. Princess Mononoke associates hate with long-standing feuds between Humans, Gods and the Animals. This is why Ashitaka condemns hate.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

Hate is an extension of anger, you can't have hate without anger. Anger, like all emotions, elicits a particular type of behavior. If you were to remove anger, our species would eventually go extinct. So to answer your question, yes, hate is good because without it, we would be doomed for extinction.

I think there is a difference between hatred and anger.

Anger can be an energy, for example, a righteous anger over injustice or cruelty. However, with anger can come a goodness that combats it.

Pure, blind hatred is never good. Because you are not seeing the whole picture, and you may end up hurting others or yourself over something that is misunderstood. Hatred is just baggage that ultimately saps your energy and consumes you.

This is what the movie was trying to convey.

Not really sure what Arrow is. But I was actually quoting a song lyric from PiL.

Hate is a very addictive emotion. Unfortunately it can feel great and embracing the hate can be a real high. But that's the danger. It's the same high you get from drinking too much or doing something reckless. It's a temporary high and one is always left to deal with the consequences afterwards.

It's incredibly easy to be hateful and cynical. It's harder to be positive and loving, which is why a lot of people give into hate. Hate is a part of human nature and it's okay to feel it as long as you don't let it rule you.

Scimitar? Nah, it's a double edged sword.
