I'm don't usually start threads to criticize a movie severely but i felt compelled to come here and since there's very little ba reviews about the movie I'm gonna go ahead and say it, this is painfully bad. It's gross to watch, makes little sense, was cast by an insane person and directed by the most overrated director of all time. In fact, who has Guillermo del toro slept with I get that much work in Hollywood? His are the pure definition bad straight-to-video movies.
shareI couldn't disagree more with everything you said. First of all, it's a creature feature. The whole genre is like this, but usually worse. This was actually a pretty decent creature feature. Great practical effects, Intense, gross, atmospheric, silly tongue-in-cheek dialogue, etc are all staples of this genre. I'll admit the genre isn't every bodies cup of tea, so maybe that's why you didn't like it. And that's fine.
On the other hand though, I don't understand how anybody can bash on Del Toro. His unique off-kilter style is always visually amazing. He almost channels H.P. Lovecraft in his artistic tones. But hey...to each their own.
I think it sucks but it's tie that maybe as a creature feature it works at some level. Either way, I think what bothered me the most was that Jeremy Northam was in it, Ecuador he's so gorgeous and talented. I don't like Del Toro, and can't understand his films, that's probably it.

It was pretty good. Nothing special or truly outstanding but worth a watch for sure. Decent late night entertainment.
