'The Mill on the Floss'

Is anyone else here a fan of this Masterpiece Theatre production??

If so, what did you think of it?? Have you read the novel??

I attempted to read the novel by George Elliot after seeing the film but stopped halfway through..I prefer the movie way better than I do the novel.

Hi

I have a copy of it on VHS and DVD - I've forgotten the storyline, so I'll have to watch it again to post up my comments

I saw a movie version of MOTF several years ago; not sure if it was Masterpiece Theatre, but it was a serial and shown on a weekend afternoon.

I first read the book (I'm a guy, btw) about 25 years ago. It took me a while to slug my way through parts of it, especially the middle, but when it gets to the last few chapters of Book VI and into Book VII, it is a skyrocket in flight. I've reread the entire book another time and have read Book VII maybe 6 or 7 times.

If you're familiar with the story via the movie, you might skim your way through until the end of VI. Believe me Maggie's internal conflicts and with Tom and the final denoument in the flood are well worth the read.

Emily Watson makes the film watchable.

Makes me wish the screenplay were better.

honestly, i have not scene a bad masterpiece theater movie, and this was very good. i really am starting to like emily watson, she is a cutie in her own right in that british-y way with those baby blue eyes and baby face cheeks. felt so bad for her throughout the whole thing. also great to see king theoden, er, bernard hill in this!
