How About that House?

I think Mercer House was another star of the film. That Christmas party scene at the beginning is my favorite. I love the use of intense color throughout the house. And that floor in the hallway is spectacular.

As I understand it, the present owner (Jim Williams's sister) is looking to sell Mercer House. Mind, it will be sold unfurnished.

So if you've got 8.9 million bucks to blow, step right up!

Update...

It's not for sale but open for tours now! All you "midnight" fans can now tour the famous Mercer house.

reply

Yes you can Tour the Mercer House. but Jim's sister will still stick her nose up at you . What is funny, one of her degrees is in Sociology .

Update again. Mercer house HAS been sold by Jim William's sister, I heard about it in the news about 9 months ago, I think.

It's true you might break your neck. It's a risk I'm willing to take.

I read in a recent Lonely Planet guide that the Mercer House is NOT open for inspection/tours.

Jim Williams left Mercer House to his two nieces in his will. The girls "sold" Mercer House to their mother, Jim's sister.

She sold many rare and valuable pieces through Christie's. She now lives in Mercer House and gives tours of the first floor.

reply

I've heard Jim wouldn't have been pleased by that, that he couldn't stand the sister.

Maybe that's Danny's revenge. LOL!

Jim and his sister had no use for each other. He stated repeatedly that if something were to happen to him he wanted his nieces to have Mercer House, but not his sister. His nieces knew that.

You are right, Jim Williams would be displeased. Danny? who knows? Minerva didn't come through.

It's funny I saw this topic. I watched this movie this morning and am seeing my grandmother this afternoon.

I remember that she has a book about Mercer House that she got when she vistited it in the early 2000's.

The movie was not as good as I had heard, but I found the case interesting. I am going to ask her about the house and book today. Being Southern myself I'm a sucker for those big old houses.

This link was interesting. Here is the author discussing the case and book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UruNZpZFaIo
