Bourgeois


This may be a stupid question, but what did they mean by Bourgeois? When Christian Bale's character was talking to that retired man on the train, he menetioned that he's a bourgeois.

I suppose the simplest answer would be that 'bourgeois' refers to middle class, stifled, conservative types that are percieved as the main enemy to art, creativity, the bohemian lifestyle, etc. Politically, Marxism refers to the bourgeois as the owning class; therefore, repressive and in direct conflict to the proletariat - the working man.



1. Being moody.
2. Being bad at maths.
3. Being sad.
