Explain This to Me

You are a married man with a wife and kid on the way. Your best mate from high school comes to visit. He immediately expresses contempt for your choices, insults your wife in front of your face, and treats her rudely and with disdain.

That's what this movie is about.

Why does it have fans? I would like one of them to explain what about this movie passes the first test of emotional logic.

If you are a Bale fan and you'd watch him read from the phone book, I can understand liking this movie as it is a rare glimpse of the pre-Batman pre-Bateman English Bale, gone forever, it appears.

But it sounds to me like a ridiculous premise for a movie.

"kid on the way"? His kid is old enough to pull his books from the shelves and paw through them.

That's what this movie is about.

That's not what this movie is about. This movie is about how the family man deals with having his choices questioned. It is about how he reconciles himself to living with his choices. Each choice that we make in life limits our possibilities, and part of growing up is getting used to this limitation of possibilities.
