Why did book versions replace 'what a gullible breed' with..

"WE'RE a gullible GREED"? I can understand why the replace "damn" with "God", given that they wouldn't even put "damn" on junior novelizations for kids. Still, "what a gullible breed" makes more sense than "we're a gullible greed". The picture book, junior novelization, and the comic adaptation (not the original by Lowell Cunningham)--which evens cuts out Dee, who right after that scene in the movie, retires because he's too old and requests Kay neuralize him. When Kay says "what a gullible breed" he's obviously commenting about tricking the INS agents into being neuralized. But those alternate adaptions I mentioned replace "what a gullible breed" with "we're a gullible greed." What's the latter supposed to mean, as opposed to the former, which we know well.
