Am I the only one who found the traffic accident hilarious?

Honestly, I wasn't expecting it. I remember watching this with my mother (who wanted a sweet romance movie) and absolutely dying laughing when Brad Pitt played Pong with the cars. It reminded me of that scene in Pulp Fiction when Vincent accidentally shoots Marvin in the head while chatting with him in the back seat. Random, sick...but utterly hysterical.

I do agree that it was hilarious in a otherwise dramatic film. It in fact adds to how great the film is.

You're an idiot

reply

Nope - you sure aren't. I was on the floor laughing about it about 5 minutes ago. The movie's on right now and I'd forgotten about that part completely. It was so out of place and unexpected after that whole turning around to look at each other thing 15 times over...Uproariously funny.

reply

No you weren't the only one. It was alittle funny for me because of the pure shock. Now if Susan would have seen it happen with her reaction then a cut away to black, that would have been priceless.

I saw this movie in a theatre during its original release, and I laughed OUT LOUD when he got hit -- but you could have heard a pin drop in the theatre otherwise. I couldn't believe everyone else was able to watch that scene with a straight face.

Truly, a horrible, horrible movie, by the way. The type of movie I would have walked out on and asked for my money back if I had been alone...

Room for one more, honey.

reply

Thank you for saying that!!! Because I DID walk out of this movie at the theatre, then a couple years later had to sit through it AGAIN cause visiting family members wanted to see it.
The acting was terrible, even Anthony sucked. As for Brad Pitt, he can't act his way out of a wet paper sack (and the girl! hooooooorrrrrrible!! Clearly they both slept with the director or the producer or both, to get their roles.

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

I love the movie!!! And it is too funny for words when he bounces among the cars. HILARIOUS!!!!

I've seen this movie several times and I don't recall finding the car accident scene funny at all. At that point in the plot, that was a tragic and stunning event. Was it funny because the scene was done poorly? I don't think it was intentional, this movie was obviously not a comedy.

...my thoughts tend to come out in little spurts that don't necessarily connect.
If you hang around long enough, you will find the linear path.

reply

It is SO OBVIOUS it was intentionally funny.
I don't know how anyone can't see it...

reply

It is a black comedy after all so yeah that hit was over the top.

reply

I believe that it is easy to find this particular part humorous since there is a fine line between comedy and tragedy.

It was definitely not something I'd laugh at in person, but it's hilarious how the dude was stupid enough to stand in the middle of a very busy street to look back at a chick he just met in the first place.

>>> but it's hilarious how the dude was stupid enough to stand in the middle of a very busy street to look back at a chick he just met in the first place

To me, that's the really noteworthy aspect of the scene. Only in a Hollywood movie would it ever be possible for a person to become so disconnected from reality that they would walk into a street, completely oblivious to the vehicles racing across it at high speed.

It should be against the law to use "LOL" unless you really did LOL!

A good quality clip is on youtube by movieclips. He actually repeatedly looked both ways, but got distracted one time and then, well.

Haters will hate but the two leads had great chemistry and credible reasons to keep looking back. Why do you think craigslist's missed connections is so famous (or infamous).

reply

No. It's funny because it's bad executed and Pitt is bouncing on several cars... like a parody.

reply

LOL. Nope, I laughed too. Actually, I was so into the moment of hoping he would go back to her that when he "played pong with the cars" :) I was stunned into silence for about 30 seconds and then laughed for the following 5 mins.

I saw this movie in the theater and the crowd's reaction to the accident was priceless. A few people actually screamed out loud. There was an equally overt reaction when I saw Cliffhanger in the theater when the girl fell like 10 minutes into the movie.

My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment I made all of the ladies on IMDb pregnant.
